General Manager of Operations

Description of Position:

Our client’s General Manager is responsible to the Board of Directors of the Eastlink Centre for all aspects of the operation of the Centre. This position reports directly to the Chair of the Board and provides leadership and overall decision making to the staff and operations of the facility. The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the fiscal management, overall quality, effectiveness and efficiency of facility operations, human resources, programming, events and customer experience within the facility.

Organizational Relationships:

  • Reports directly to the Chair of the Board of the Eastlink Centre
  • Provides advice, operational updates and information to the Board on a regular basis
  • Attends board meetings as required and provides follow up action, information, advice and support to the Chair of the Board in order to carry out decisions of the Board
  • Provides leadership to staff working within the facility and direction to the management team
  • Developments and maintains relationships with service providers, external agencies, consultants and associated professional groups
  • Deals with the public with integrity and in a professional and courteous manner

 

General Duties Would Include:

  • Establishes a strategic plan to guide the operational goals and strategies for the facility, which is a multi-use sports and entertainment centre
  • Financial oversight of budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and effective management of financial resources to operate within the budget envelope to maintain the facility
  • Overall accountability for ensuring policies, procedures and management information systems follow best practices for human resources and facilities management
  • Labour relations and management duties include developing performance expectations and feedback processes, contact negotiations and collective agreement interpretation
  • Liaison with municipal, provincial and federal government representatives to source short-term and long-term funding commitments and explore funding opportunities for time limited projects
  • Liaison and contract negotiations with permanent and prospective tenants, promoters, user groups, capital project contractors, community groups and others.
  • Market new opportunities for box office services, events and increased facility use through targeted marketing strategies
  • Seeking out new and inventive event opportunities in order to continually support organizational growth and operations
  • Researching and pursuing special event opportunities year-round
  • Manage procurement process for major initiatives and/or purchases through research, tendering and approving tenders
  • Responsible for risk management and consultation with legal specialists regarding a variety of situations and options

 

Requirements for this position would include:

  • Strong Financial management and budgeting skills
  • Knowledge of Human resource management practices, policies and regulations within a medium-large sized organization
  • Knowledge of Facilities Management best practices
  • Advanced knowledge of Events Management and Marketing
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in Managing and Leading in a complex working environment
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office and complex computer programs
  • Exceptions interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Highly collaborative, with the ability to create a strong team
  • Strong decision-making abilities, analytical thought process and conflict resolution skills

 

Knowledge & Abilities and Interpersonal required for this position would include:

  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Recreation, Marketing or a related field
  • Further education or educational certificates are considered an asset
  • Extensive leadership, management and supervisory experience
  • Experience in financial management, budget development and oversight
  • Marketing and events management experience is considered a strong asset
  • Experience in facilities management
  • Ability to network through various business and government channels
  • Experience working with a board is considered an asset
  • Experience working in a municipal setting is considered an asset
  • Emotional intelligence that can be demonstrated through experience
  • Significant experience in Customer Service with a focus on customer service orientation
  • Passion and drive to create a welcoming environment for the community at large
  • Ability to make ethical and effective decisions
  • Ability to take responsibility for one’s actions

 

Other requirements:

  • The successful applicant must have a valid driver’s licence and a vehicle in order to attend occasional off-island meetings or event management planning.
  • The successful applicant must show a demonstrated ability to be outgoing, personable and passionate for bettering the Eastlink centre community

 

Salary:

 

The salary for this position has a range of $90,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on qualifications, experience and interpersonal ability.
