General Manager, PEI


Our client is seeking a motivated, experienced, and hard-working General Manager responsible for overseeing operations for their organization. In this role, the GM will supervise and coordinate daily activities and provide guidance to Executives, supervisors, and their highly skilled staff members. The successful applicant will have excellent knowledge and experience from the construction industry in a retail setting, and a strong understanding of the commodities market.

The GM will be active in purchasing, working closely with the Store Manager(s) to determine inventory needs, as well as Executives in executing large orders. Our successful candidate will have the opportunity to service a portfolio of the Organization’s valued clients, drive daily sales, and ensure all their material requests are met.

Requirements and skills:

  • 4-5+ years of management experience in a similar industry/environment
  • Experience in a similar role is a strong asset
  • Retail experience a strong asset
  • Ample knowledge of offered products and services
  • Strong ability to lead and direct staff throughout daily operations, confidence in decision-making
  • Ability to work flexible hours, where required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high energy environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and willingness/ability to learn new software
  • Related post-secondary education considered a strong asset
  • Following applicable workplace safety practices in compliance with legislation
  • Certifications, training, or coursework in a related field considered an asset

Key responsibilities

  • Reporting to the President
  • Managing the daily operations of the organization
  • Responsible for management and oversight of roughly 40+ employees
  • Providing hands-on management role throughout all services
  • Managing client contacts and relationships
  • Traveling to various locations to meet with clients and prospective clientele
  • Overseeing staff working schedules, task delegation and project completion
  • Working in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
  • Working within all levels of the business
  • Oversight of ordering stock and product management
  • Assisting with any problems that may arise within the organization
  • Overseeing the training of new employees
  • Dismissing staff if required (following appropriate procedures)
  • Ensuring locations and projects have all necessary operating products, services, and equipment
  • Following appropriate policies and procedures throughout daily operations
  • Maintaining a professional work appearance
  • Emphasizing a safe and regulated working environment for all staff members and supporting every role within the company

Working conditions

  • 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM operating hours, may vary
  • 4- 40 hours per week
  • Must be available for weekends/nights as necessary
  • Overtime may be required
