Registered Nurse (RN)


Our client is seeking a Registered Nurse for their healthcare facility located in Summerside, PEI. The Registered Nurse assumes responsibility for all aspects of the provision of nursing care to the residents and patients of the facility. The successful applicant is expected to be a leader in their professional, and in this capacity, will direct their team throughout the shift. The Registered Nurse actively participates in the nursing process by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the specific needs of each resident while utilizing current medical practice. She or He will acquire a thorough knowledge of, and adhere to the policies, procedures, and standards of our Client’s organization. The Registered Nurse will establish and maintain positive working relationships with management, staff, patients, and their families.

General duties of this position would include:

  • Reporting to the Health Services Manager
  • Utilizing the nursing process
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Proving holistic care to individuals, residences and/or patients
  • Guiding and implementing nursing techniques throughout daily operations
  • Patient care and support
  • Providing clinical leadership in complex/complicated client care settings
  • Using professional knowledge, skills and judgement needed to provide competent, evidence-based nursing techniques
  • Implementation and evaluation of plans of care to achieve positive client/patient outcomes
  • Ensuring the absolute best and medically ethical treatment of patients/clients throughout daily operations

Day-to-day duties for this position would include:

  • Develop and review nursing care plans that are individualized to each client
  • Provide care according to the established care plan ensuring that, on an ongoing basis, the emotional, spiritual, physical comfort and safety of clients are met to the greatest possible extent; care must be within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse
  • Perform routine nursing duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and Standards of Nursing Practice as defined by the provincial regulating body (PEI)
  • Perform specialized nursing procedures for which recognized training and current competency can be demonstrated
  • Observe and document client conditions according to Client’s Home Health standards
  • Receive and transcribe physicians’ orders
  • Provide direction, support and delegation to Licensed/Registered Practical Nurses and unlicensed Field employees as appropriate
  • Understand and implement infection prevention practices.
  • Participate in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives in keeping with the company’s Quality Management System
  • Participates in proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties
  • Is responsible to notify immediate Supervisor of any Health & Safety risks or concerns
  • Maintains confidentiality of client and corporate information and discusses same only with appropriate personnel
  • Complete other tasks as requested
  • Assuring responsible nursing practices are being administered within the facility
  • Following daily schedules and routines of clients/patients in care
  • Maintains a clean, comfortable and safe environment
  • Functions as a team member, and team leader to provide for quality resident care
  • Ensuring electronic data and information for clients and patients is always up-to-date and accurate
  • Adhere to Client’s Policies and Procedures
  • Leading special initiatives as instructed

Requirements for this position would include:

  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing and must be currently registered or willing to obtain a license with the CRNPEI
  • Experience in Long Term Care preferred
  • Must have current First Aid and BCLS certification and be willing to complete these as required thereafter
  • A commitment to providing superb resident/patient-focused care
  • A sincere interest in, and understanding of gerontology and dementia
  • Optimal skills in both written and verbal communication
  • General hospital/healthcare experience is considered an asset
  • Complete practicum is considered an asset for recent graduates
  • Further secondary education is considered a valued asset
  • A strong commitment to ongoing professional development
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

The successful applicant for this position would be expected to receive a wage ranging from $34.00 – $40.00 hourly. 40-45 hours per week. The successful applicant must be willing to work evening, 12 hour and weekend shifts.
