Sāndi About the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada

The PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada (PEIANC) is a non-profit organization providing short-term settlement services and delivering community integration programs for new immigrants and refugees in the province. Working closely with the Federal and Provincial Governments, the Association plays a key leadership role promoting the importance of immigration and diversity to the future of this province.

 

Description:

PEIANC is looking for an experienced and passionate leader to assume the Executive Director (ED) position in an organization that currently employs around 40 people working in autonomous teams. Reporting to the President of the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Association, including the management of programs and services, finances, and staff. The ED is the principal spokesperson for the organization and maintains a balance between internal management and external relationship building in support of the Association’s objectives. Under the guidance of the Board, the successful candidate will also be responsible for strategic planning and maintaining appropriate funding from all levels of government.

 

Management and Leadership:

Provide operational and strategic leadership, particularly in the areas of human resources, finance, risk management, and governance

Collaborate and establish strong and supportive relationships with the Board of Directors

Ensure programs and services reflect the mission and values of the organization

Identify relevant requirements in legislation and regulations and ensure best practices are in place and compliant

Build collaborative working relationships with stakeholders including Federal and Provincial Government Departments and private sector agencies on matters pertaining to the work of the Association

Create a positive and equitable working environment that fosters high morale and effective team performance

Oversee and participate in recruitment, hiring, and training and orientation of new employees, and professional development and performance reviews for all staff

Prepare funding proposals

Provide guidance to the Director of Finance and Administration

Represent the Association where issues related to immigration and settlement are being publicly addressed

 

Board Resource:

Initiate the development of strategic plans, work with the Board to determine goals and strategic directions, and adapt operational plans and activities accordingly

Prepare annual budget, manage resources, and monitor the financial stability of the organization

Provide written and verbal reports at Board meetings and at the Annual General meeting

Inform the Board of any situation that could potentially create liabilities for the organization and ensure appropriate risk management strategies are adopted

 

Education, Skills, and Experience:

University degree in the field(s) of human or social sciences, business administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

4-6 years’ work experience in a charitable or non-profit environment, including in a leadership role (leadership experience from related fields will also be considered)

Demonstrated leadership and conflict management experience

Management skills, including HR management, financial management, and strategic planning

Knowledge of and proficiency in current evidence-based methods and practices of service delivery to newcomers

Excellent verbal communication skills, including public speaking

Excellent writing skills, including writing funding proposals and internal and external communications

Comfort and experience with multilingual and intercultural work environments

Fluency in languages other than English is an asset

Experience with and knowledge of immigration laws and regulations is an asset
